This article provides step-by-step instructions for changing your primary Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method for your Microsoft 365 account. This is useful when your default method, such as a call to your office phone, is unavailable or if you want to switch to a more convenient option like the Microsoft Authenticator app.

👣 Steps
Provide clear, numbered, step-by-step instructions for the process.
- When prompted to sign in, if you cannot use the default verification method shown, simply click on the back arrow next to your email. This will take you to a list of your other available options..
- From the list that appears, select the verification method you would like to use for this sign-in.
- Follow the on-screen instructions based on the method you chose.
- For an App Notification: Check your smartphone for a sign-in approval request from the Microsoft Authenticator app and enter the number on screen into your phone.
- For a Text Message: You will receive an SMS message with a numeric code. Enter this code on the sign-in screen to continue.
- For a Phone Call: Your phone will ring. Answer the call and follow the automated instructions (this usually requires pressing the pound # key).
